Staying Stopped

Stopping smoking is not difficult. As Mark Twain said, “It is the easiest thing I have ever done. I have done it thousands of times”.

The dilemma for most smokers who would prefer to be nonsmokers is not stopping smoking but Staying Stopped.

This site is for:

  • smokers who would like to become nonsmokers
  • nonsmokers who were once smokers, who would like to reinforce their nonsmoking behaviour
  • health professionals and others who would like to assist those smokers out there who would like to quit smoking

For most people to quit smoking and to stay stopped is not easy. There is not one easy way for a smoker to become a nonsmoker and to stay a nonsmoker.

There are many different reasons why people smoke. Addiction to the drug nicotine contained in tobacco is only one of these reasons. We are all individuals, and what works for one person may not work for someone else. But by looking at strategies that have worked for others, you may perhaps find something that will work for you.

This site was first published in February 2007, by Ian McKenzie. One of the ‘hats’ that Ian wears is ‘Health Professional’. Ian had just arrived home after conducting a ‘Fresh Start®’ course, and did a computer search of sites to assist those wishing to quit. There are heaps of them, but none specifically, (that Ian could find anyway), on helping smokers to stop and stay stopped. There are many sites that have a commercial interest in promoting one particular method or program. However the purpose of this site is to present helpful objective advise for smokers who want to quit smoking and then to stay stopped.

Thanks for visiting. Make sure you bookmark this site and come back often. The last page of this site is called “Feedback”. After perusing the site, if there is additional information that you would like to see here, then please let me know about it. Another page of the site is called “Stories”. I would like to hear stories from anyone who has stopped and stayed stopped. Contact me through the Feedback form, or alternatively send your story (along with photo(s) if you wish to stories@mystopsmoking.net )and I shall get back to you and hopefully publish your success story. I have just registered and published a new site specifically for peoples’ success stories in stopping smoking and in staying stopped. The address of the site is: www.mystopsmoking.net . Smokers attempting to quit may well be motivated by reading others success stories.

I look forward to hearing from you.

You will have no doubt noticed, that there are Google® advertisements on each page of this site. This site has been sponsored by Ian McKenzie’s Domains, and the Google® ads are there to help cover the cost of publishing the site. Google® actually searches the content of the site and the ads should be related to whatever is appearing on the pages. The writer has no control over which ads appear on the site, and does not necessarily endorse all or any of these products or services.

Articles that may be of assistance to those attempting to stop and to stay stopped are on one of my other Web Site on Smoking Issues, “Cease Smoking”.

A third Web Site discussing the dangers of smoking will soon be published. Its address will be www.ceasepuffing.info .

On the next page, “Ian & Smoking”, I give a brief background of my behaviour as a smoker and my transition to nonsmoker status.

If you have a positive story regarding quitting, I would like to hear it and publish it on this site. I would particularly like to hear from any one who has participated in one of my “Fresh Start™” courses, or Cardiac Rehabilitation programs over the years. just click on the Feedback link to contact me.

I look forward to your next visit.

Regards

Ian McKenzie
